Searchlight is a census-designated
place in Clark County, Nevada. The population was
576 at the 2000 census, and was estimated by the
Clark County Comprehensive Planning Department to
have a population of 780 as of July 1, 2006.
Searchlight was an important gold
mining town of southern Nevada in the early part of
the 20th century, but the mines exhausted after only
a few years excavation. It is marked as Nevada
Historical Marker 116. A significant portion of
Searchlight's present economy is driven by its close
proximity to Cottonwood Cove including numerous gas
stations, convenience stores, and boat storage
facilities.
